How to film a match

A good video is the difference between a great analysis and none. Five minutes of set-up is enough.

1

Where to stand

At the SIDE of the court, level with the net, outside the fence or sideline. The phone should look straight across the court, not along it. Behind-the-baseline videos do not work yet.

2

Framing

Turn the phone sideways. Both baselines, both sidelines and the net must be in the picture the whole time, with a little floor to spare. Do not zoom and do not follow the ball.

3

Hold it still

Use a tripod, a fence clip or lean it on something. Walking or panning breaks the court map.

4

Quality

1080p or 4K at 60 frames per second (camera settings). Normal colour or HDR are both fine. Keep the lens clean.

5

Sound matters

The program listens for the paddle pops. Do not cover the microphone and avoid standing next to a loud fan or music.

6

Record the whole game

From the first serve to the last point, including the time between points. Doubles only: four players. Make sure the phone has space and a charger.

7

Light

Daylight or good court lights. Avoid filming straight into the sun.

8

Upload

On Wi-Fi if you can. The video goes up in small pieces: if the connection drops, open the match page and choose the same video again.
